"Yeah, I was there when Shiva-7 finally met Xûr.

'Course, he was already kinda famous by then. Only Guardian found beyond the Reef. Arrived at the Tower in a hijacked Fallen skiff.

So when he said he as going to pay Xûr a visit, word got around pretty quick. Quite a crowd by the time Shiva-7 showed up. Xûr paid us no mind, naturally, just stood there, not moving but moving all the time, you know? And Shiva comes sauntering up and we all get ready for a show.

They didn't disappoint.

Shiva goes, "I'm in need of a new pair of boots, got anything in my size?"

Xûr, he suddenly stops moving. Like, completely. Never seen him so still. And he says, "Aris?" In this weird voice. Weird for him anyway. And he reaches out, like he's going to touch Shiva's face. "What are you now?"

Shiva doesn't even blink. Okay, so he physically can't, but you know what I mean. Doesn't flinch. "You tell me," he says, and I think he really wanted to hear what Xûr would say.

Just like that, the moment passes. Xûr pulls back his hand. "No, he is dead," he says. And Shiva says, "Yeah, I get that a lot." But Xûr is already turning away, looking into that big case of his.

Xûr's muttering to himself, something like "Bodies come and go but the cells remember." Then, "Could be the Nine wish to help you, or the body has desires of its own. Accept this gift."

Xûr pulls this fusion rifle out of his case, presents it to Shiva. Old squid features, he never gives anything away, except for this once. Stubby, kind of ugly thing, dull grey, boxy power cell, no markings except for some faded, ancient Japanese characters down the side of the barrel. Like this:

先手は万手

So that's how he got it. Probably don't need me to tell you what it does. Plenty of stories now.

Only one I'll add is this: later, I asked Shiva what the words meant. Thought he was going to brush me off, but he just says, "Get in the first shot."

Not sure if that's accurate, but I figure it's good advice at any rate."
